Wat Thai Kusinara Chalermraj is located in Kushinagar, a holy place where the Buddha entered His final Nirvana. It was situated in the area between the Sala Grove - where the Nirvana Stupa was built to commemorate the Buddha’s Great Decease and Makutbandhana Pagoda - where the Buddha’s body was cremated and His relics were divided by Drona, a wise Brahamana.

The area covers 14 rai, 2 ngan, 80 square wah (5 acres and 85 demeans). The land’s ownership right was received on the Maghapuja Day on February 24, 1994 by the Mulnidhi Wat Thai Kusinara Chalermrajya Society, at Wat Thai Kusinara Mahavihar, from the Indian Land Office for Kusinara (Padrauna) District.
