Kushinagar
Clinic is one of the main social activities initiated by the Thai
monastery for the benefit of the people in need. The
clinic is a charity project to meet physical as well as mental
needs for the benefit of the local people. Its inauguration and
opening to the public took place on Thai Mothers’ Day, the 12th
of August 2000. The resident Thai embassador, Mr. Thawatchai
Thawisri, founder of the clinic, presided the ceremony. Further
support for the clinic came from Mr. Kurmak Singh Sachdev, the
charitable fund of Wat Thai Kusinara Chalermraj, Mr. Chumphon
Phosrivisuddhigun, and other donators from Thailand, India and
many other countries, who were all inspired by the project.

The general medical treatments
(O.P.D.) under the supervision of a resident graduate
physician follow the systems of both modern and traditional
medicine. On special occasions, such as Buddhist holidays and
events related to the Royal Family, medical specialists are
invited, complemented by volunteers from Delhi, Bangkok and other
countries. These doctors also provide ambulance health service
visiting schools, colleges, universities, towns and villages in
the area.

About the Clinic
|

The Clinic consists of two examination rooms for western and
alternative medicine and pharmacy room. Opened on August 12, 2000,
it offers medical treatments for local people free of charge. At
present there are three doctors, three pharmacists and a
receptionist working at the clinic, all of whom are paid by the
monastery. It is a
charitable service and a patient pays only Rupees 5/- for
treatment and medicines and additional Rupees 2/- for
registration. The patients who are unable to pay may request for
free of charge. Free treatment and medicines are provided to
children under 8 years and to senior citizens above 60 years on
Wednesday and Saturday. On the anniversary of its operation, from
August 2000 - July 2001, statistics show that 21,334 local
patients registered for medical treatment and 499 International
pilgrims (from Thailand, Burma, Sri Lanka, Nepal, USA, Malaysia,
Australia and others) received medical aid from our Kushinagar
Clinic.

Clinic is totally a charitable endeavour. Estimated expenditure
Rs. 90,000 - 100,000 per month, while Rs.20,000 - 25,000 per month
are received from patients as a patient welfare fund.
